In December 2016, families in need received 3,240 pounds of fruit through this effort! The fresh fruit is an appreciated treat, as it is rare that food banks have an opportunity to receive a large enough quantity of fresh fruit to make it worthwhile to distribute. Usually, fruit must be purchased.

The AMIGOS DC Chapter board delivers donated fruit to the food banks, so helping a food bank simply involves ordering the fruit. You have the option of ordering oranges or grapefruit.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:

Where does the fruit come from?

Our vendor sources from various farms in Florida, California and other areas, depending on the growing conditions in any given year.

How many fruits are there per case?

There are typically approximately 50-60 oranges and 32-36 grapefruit. For families with children for whom this is a special treat, the fruit disappears fast!

Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes. All of the organizations benefiting from your purchase (AMIGOS, Bread for the City, and the Arlington Food Assistance Center) are 501c3s. You will be emailed a receipt for your records.
